Your Comprehensive Aftercare Guide from Muse by Monique

If you’re beginning your skin journey with us you may be focussed on the day of your cosmetic treatments, however the moments immediately following your treatment are just as important as the treatment itself in achieving and maintaining your best results. We want you to be as informed as possible about what your aftercare process should look like, so if you aren’t quite sure what to do after your treatments, think of this guide as your personalised roadmap to a smooth recovery and lasting results.

Be Gentle with Treated Areas:  For the first night after your appointment, it's crucial to resist the urge to touch, rub, or massage the treated area. Your skin is delicate and just beginning its healing process. When it's time to cleanse and moisturise, be incredibly gentle, using light, upward strokes. Additionally, please put a pause on any active skincare products (like retinols, AHAs, or strong serums) for that first night. Your skin needs a soothing, unburdened recovery.

Remain Upright (for Wrinkle Reduction): If you've had a wrinkle reduction treatment, please ensure you remain upright for four hours post-appointment. This simple posture helps the product settle effectively and contributes to the best possible outcome.

Avoid Alcohol & High-Intensity Exercise: For 24 hours following your treatment, we recommend avoiding alcohol and intense physical activity. Alcohol can thin the blood and potentially increase bruising, while strenuous exercise can elevate blood pressure and lead to increased swelling. A little rest and relaxation will serve your results far better!

Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!  This golden rule applies not just to your general health but especially to your post-treatment recovery. Staying well-hydrated supports your body’s natural healing mechanisms and can contribute to a more comfortable and efficient recovery.

Avoid Excessive Heat: For a full 48 hours after your appointment, it's best to steer clear of saunas, steam rooms, hot Pilates, or prolonged direct sun exposure to the treated area. Excessive heat can increase swelling and impact the settling of your treatment. Let your skin enjoy a calm, cool environment.

Use a Cold Compress or Ice Pack (for Volume Improving Treatments Only): If you've had a volume improving treatment applying a cool compress or ice pack to the treated area can significantly help reduce any swelling or bruising. Remember, this advice is strictly for post-volume improving treatments.

Postpone Other Skin Treatments:  Your skin needs time to integrate and heal. Please postpone any other procedures for the treated areas – including facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, or skin needling – for a full two weeks after your appointment with us. Giving your skin this recovery period ensures optimal results and prevents irritation.

Apply Arnicare Balm:  While we strive for minimal bruising, it can sometimes occur. To help speed up the healing process, gently apply Arnicare balm to any bruised areas. This balm is available for purchase at our clinic.
